Message from the Commodore:
Highlights of the June Membership meeting:
The June Membership meeting was held at the West Pond Functions at the American Legion Post #40 on June 12th. The speaker for that evening was Charlie Naff, a long-time ferry boat Captain with Boston Harbor Cruises Charlie regaled us with tales from his experiences in transporting commercial boats up and down the Atlantic Coast and also via the intracoastal waterway. Many thanks to Anne Mozzone and her crew of volunteers who obtained the Italian dinner for the occasion.
Our May meeting was held at the Gourmet Garden restaurant and we reviewed our Skills Checklist so we can prepare ourselves for the upcoming sailing season. See checklist link below…….and take the test to see what you need to improve on during the sailing season. We also reviewed how to test our inflatable life jackets before we get on the water. It is important that you know whether your life vest will inflate when you need it. We also broke into groups and practices our knot tying. Lots of fun was had by all and we all got better at tying bowlines, clove hitch, cleat hitch, and coil/stowing a line. Many thanks to Alma, Ray, Don and Alden for demonstrating how to do all of this……special thanks to Sally for demonstrating the quick way to use the clove hitch on a piling!!!
Next month we will again be at the Little West Pond Hall on Federal Furnace Road in Plymouth. See you there!!
Our March Caribbean Party was a huge success. The party was at the Fairfield Inn Restaurant in Brant Rock, Marshfield, MA. The band was awesome and there was no one sitting at the table because everyone was on the dance floor. The costumes were very creative and Paul Ware won the prize for most creative. Congratulations Paul ! Nice job!
Bob Burns presented Ken Yeager with the 2018 Commodore’s Bowl. This bowl is presented annually to the person who has contributed the most during the past year. Our congratulations to Ken and sincere thanks for all your hard work to make this club so much fun !!
Our recent monthly meeting was held on Tuesday, April 10th at the Little West Pond Function Hall on Federal Furnace Road in Plymouth. Ellen Leder, Vice Commodore, welcomed 2 prospective members to our meeting, Pat Culbert and Donna Keith, both of whom were previous members of the club. The food was delicious and there was plenty of room for everyone. Betty McIntyre, Speaker Chairperson, presented the documentary film about”Blind Sailors” which was very inspiring and enjoyed by all. These sailors who are located in Boston Harbor, competed in International competitions in Japan and won. It was an exceptional film.
Ken Yeager, Past Commodore, presented Betty McIntyre with the Peter Williams Bowl. This bowl is presented in memory of our dear deceased former member of our club. It is present to the Boat Owner who has demonstrated sailing skills, nautical knowledge and patience. This criteria is key to being an exceptional boat captain and we are very pleased to have given this award to such a deserving person. Congratulations Betty! Well Done!
